Dr. Bilhanan Silverajan

Senior communications and applied security researcher / IoT systems architect / Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Tampere University

Dr. Bilhanan Silverajan is a senior communications and applied security researcher as well as an IoT systems architect with extensive expertise in communication protocols, software architectures, cyber-physical systems, and dependable automation. He holds a Doctor of Science in Computing and Electrical Engineering from Tampere University, where he currently serves as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Unit of Computing Sciences. Dr. Silverajan has co-ordinated, led and contributed to numerous high-impact European and Finnish-funded projects in domains such as IoT, maritime digitalisation, industrial cybersecurity, and edge-cloud continuum infrastructure. He is a designated IETF CoRE Working Group Editor as well as a designated IANA Expert. He is the co-author of RFC 8323, with his standardization work also adopted by the Open Mobile Alliance and Bluetooth SIG. As the architect and responsible lead for the Dependable Systems Computing Infrastructure at Tampere University, he integrates IT/OT convergence with real-time threat detection and trusted execution environments. His teaching portfolio includes advanced courses in Cyber Security and Internet of Things, enriched by research-driven pedagogical design and cutting-edge applications of AI and edge computing. He has authored over 50 refereed publications and is the named inventor on multiple international patents. Dr. Silverajan is recognised for driving impactful real-world research and education bridging academia and industry, particularly in resilient architectures for smart infrastructure and connected mobile systems.
